Theology
- What is a Reformed church?
The Reformed faith is one of the three main branches of the Protestant Reformation. A Reformed church treasures the clarity of the gospel, loves the Word of God, seeks to worship with reverence, and believes that the Reformed confessions accurately summarize the teaching of Holy Scripture.
- What is a presbytery?
A presbytery is a regional council of elders (presbyters) that submit to one another. United together, the local churches form the presbytery and the larger church (the denomination).
- What does the word presbyterian mean?
In the narrowest sense of the word, presbyterian refers to the form of church government which has the plurality of elders, both at the local and at the regional level, as its distinctive feature.
This term differentiates us from congregational polities, usually used in Baptist churches, and episcopalian polities, used in the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches.
A presbyterian denomination typically means a Reformed church with Presbyterian government.
